Hello everyone.

I'm pretty sure this is Penstemon but, can anyone please tell me the name of this type? Thanksimage

Similar to Husker red, except husker red has bronze foliage, although it can be greener in summer.

Thanks fidget bones. I looked up 'Husker Red' and what lovely coloured foliage it has...The bronze. Be a perfect companion for Penstemon with green foliage. This one in my photo seems to have a purple hue to it. I thought I had stumbled across 'sour grapes' growing virtually wild.

If its growing wild its probably a seedling. In which case it wont have a name.

Ah! Ok. Thanks for that info fidgetbones. Is there any risks involved in taking a cutting from this plant? I quite like it.

If its a seedling and growing wild, then do it. You can name it what you like.  Michaels stripey? If it is on someone elses land you will need their permission to take a cutting. If its on waste land or at the side of the road, I would just do it. 3 inches of non flowering shoot, gritty compost. Roots in about four weeks at this time of year.

Anything that's seeded into the wild is not Sour Grapes, however much it looks like itimage

I say "virtually wild". It is in a very overgrown communal area surrounded by weeds. I've never seen anyone gardening there in the 8 years I've been here. I had been thinking of getting one since I saw them on this site a few weeks ago...and then stumbled across this. Got to admit I had never noticed it before. Probably best I just leave it be.
