Planting in galvanised water troughs or not?

Sarah Williams7 says:

We were looking to plant in galvanised animal feeder troughs  both veg and flowers, however we have read some  reviews that say not to as the trough produces toxins affecting plants.  Is this Correct? image

I've got hostas flourishing in one image. They love it (drilled drainage holes in the bottom first)

I have never used it for veg - but Monty was growing garlic in one on this week"'s GW, so would think it would be ok.

Plenty of Zinc planters for sale and galvanising is a form of Zinc plating so also think there is nothing to worry about.  Galvanised tanks are commonly found in house drinking water supplies.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I grew lettuce in an old galvy sheep trough - raised up to stop the bunnies getting in.
