Honeysuckle doesnt flower

jackietudor07 says: Hello!
I have a Honeysuckle that was planted about 3 years ago. The first year there were a few flowers but nothing much, thereafter it has grown well and ive cut it back but it doesnt flower. It comes to bud, there is and abundance of buds of buds, then the leaves and the buds just fall off for no apparent reason, there are no bugs or flies or anything obvious, it is now so sparse and not thick and bushy its so disappointing.
Can anyone help?
Jackie

Jackie when did you it back? Most honeysuckle problems stem from lack of moisture at the roots. Keeping them well watered is essential especially if they're in a rain shadow.
I'd second that Jackie. Lack of moisture is often the reason for honeysuckles underperforming.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Honeysuckle doesn't flower on new growth. give it a season without cutting it back
In the sticks near Peterborough
Ok thanks for all that info! As you can see it's very spindley so I feel a good trim will be needed but where it
is planted the roots maybe not getting as much water as it needs as its under decking! Will water it well for a few weeks and see if it picks u first!
thanks everyone

If the buds are forming but dropping off that definitely sounds like drought to me.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Yes it grows really lush and green, the buds form and it looks like its just about to flower and then the buds and leaves gradually just fall off! ive started giving it a bucket of water every night so well see how that goes.
Thank you
