Rose saw fly

B3B3 Posts: 27,505

I've picked a number of the little b#####s off one of  my roses.

While I was doing this l noticed some loose black 'dust' on the leaves and caught up in cobwebs etc.

Am I right in assuming it's sawfly poo? I just want to be sure it's not eggs.

Also, was the interesting yellow fly that I noticed a couple of weeks ago responsible?

In London. Keen but lazy.

I expect the 'dust' is sawfly larvae poo or 'frass'. I read several year ago about a lady who collected the frass from slightly larger caterpillars in and around her garden and put it on her pot plants with very good results! I think I prefer tomato feed myself image
