Wolf's bane
poppysandford says: I've had three wolf's bane plants for two years now and both years it's been eaten by something. Whatever it is tends to eat the tops out and cause small circular cuts in the leaves too. This year it has also stripped some of the stalks as well. Any ideas on what it is etc would be great.

These are Aconites, right? Mine were munched to death by slugs, and they'd be my guess. They like the new central leaves best, but will go for any part of the plant... presumably the toxin doesn't work on molluscs.
Thank you will keep an eye out for them.
I've never had a problem with slugs and snails eating my aconitum. I thought they avoided it because of its toxicity. They are around because other things in the same area do get eaten, including the new leaves of the Fatsia Japonica right next to the acontiums.
slugs have the babies that are still in pots, never noticed anything with the more mature ones in the garden.
In the sticks near Peterborough
The slugs round here are voracious... you can hear them munching on a quiet evening (yes, really!)
