Pumpkins have been chewed by ants!

RiaRose says:

I have a pumpkin growing in the greenhouse and I noticed some ants chewing it, damaging some of the surface. I have successfully got rid of the ants, and they did not chew through very far... but where they have, I noticed some mould possibly?! (Like grey fur, but not much of it - I carefully scrapped it off.)

I keep the greenhouse aired so it doesn't get very damp, but is their anything I can put on the wound to prevent more coming back? Will this cause lasting damage to the pumpkin? The problem area is only a couple centimetres long.
