Marketmore 76 cucumber - need to pollinate?
in Fruit & veg
Have anyone growed this type of cucumber and have any advice?
As I have understood is that some cucumbers need to get pollinated by a male flower to produce fruit, and some you need to remove the male flowers because if the female flower get pollinated the cucumber will get bitter.. but does anyone know if Marketmore 76 need to get pollinated?

Marketmore is a ridge cucumber, often grown outside. It needs to be pollinated. Do not remove male flowers. The fruits are not as long as supermarket cucumbers and are fatter, so remove them to use as soon as they stop swelling, before they turn yellow.
hi iamto //figet bones I grow them every year the ones I use are female seeds and I get about 15 to 20 off every plant I have 3 plants in g/house now 2 large and 1 smaller to keep season longer I let mine get to about 8to 10 inches I tied the biggest up today it is nealy 3foot long now tied up canes then to left or right to extra 2 foot then stop it try and not let them get drafts as they don't like
Michael, what variety are you growing. ?
There are a lot of F1 all female varieties, but marketmore is open pollinated and has both male and female flowers.
ok thanks
When growing cucumbers are you removing the side shoots? (on mine I pinched the growing tip of the side shoot after the 2nd leaf because I read on a website that is right, but all pages says different things, so what are you doing with the side shoots?
When I have grown marketmore outside, I just let them get on with it, propping cucumbers up off the soil where possible.
hi figetbones the cues I use are marketmore all female type and you are right in saying that they are out door but suttons market more say indoor cues and marshalls says the same my book of D.G HEYESON think I have spelt it right says that they don't like drafts last year I had 2 spare so I had them behind g /house and did not like but in fairness to both the market more are indoor and outdoor depending what you get
Growing marketmore for the first time this year, no cucumbers as yet, also got Burpless tasty, cucamelons, and apple didnt germinate, not one.
In a lean to greenhouse, peppers on the shelf, cucumbers in gro-bag.
