'Behind the gate' project

I have an area behind my back gate, between the house and garage walls, that has always been a bit awkward. It is a narrow triangle shape, the soil was solid clay so I just covered it in gravel. The path is on a slight slope and the gravelled bit is not level. It is dampish and there is no sun till late afternoon.

It has been used to store the dustbin, old pots, bricks, hose pipe etc.and just a bit of an eyesore.

When you came in the back gate you didn't see it as the gate covered most of it,but on leaving you couldn't miss it.

So this year I did something about it.Being a shady cool area I went with that theme and used mostly foliage, ferns etc.I am especially pleased with the hanging basket which is all foliage apart from a white flowered Bacopa.

This is also the area my hedgehogs come into the garden under the fence where I have a small tunnel.

I'm quite pleased with the result and shows what can be done in a small space.

A lovely corner. Really like the hanging basket. I have a lot of shady areas and it's amazing what can be done with them.

madpenguin - that is stunning! So effective. You must be thrilled with it. The watering can adds to the effect too. image

It's so easy to just not bother with areas like that, but you've made a really beautiful feature of it.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Lovely Madpenquin, I'm totally ashamed of the space behind my gate at the moment it's a collection of bins old pots and general junk, might have to do something about itimage
