Funnily enough I was looking for a white version this morning - there isn't one :-(

    Very kind pp  image

I have one 'white' border which is mainly a spring one, though I'm developing it more, and will add extra stuff for summer, as the new building means the end still to be completed will be more visible than the other end. It's ok - I know what I mean...image

The narrow border along my back fence is largely evergreen with white and creams/yellows. It's only about 15" wide on the left hand side to about two feet at the other end. That may be the one you're thinking of pp. The addition of a 'window box' along the fence has given more scope too. I've experimented and removed some plants which were unhappy, and I have others to add which are happy.

It looks like this - pic from last October. It stays largely unchanged throughout the year, but...

...it has loads of cream and white crocus in late winter, followed by narcissus in spring, and there are various seasonal white or cream plants. I had a few cream nasturtiums in the 'box', but it was hard to get anything sown early on this year because of building work etc. I currently have white sweet peas in the middle section of it though. They'll tumble down then go back up as they have no support as such. The white arabis is very happy there so I have a load of them to plant along the top. I'll be adding some wood anemones and a few other things to get more flower power too, and the right hand end is getting a slight revamp with one of my small  philadelphus (possibly) and perhaps a white alpina clematis.

Small space - big plans Lou... image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Gorge FG. Absolutely gorge! How do you get up to those "window boxes"? What a cunning plan! image

    I fly of course.....image

Small set of steps pp. But in theory, most of the plants take care of  themselves, so very little need for them. Poke a few seeds in, trim stuff occasionally  image

Primrose family for autumn/winter/spring. Roses are a good shout May-November. Salvia seems to do quite long stints as well. Penstemon June-September/October. Hardy geranium May-October (if you cut back half way through).

Forgot about primroses/primulas and  white geraniums  Mark image

I have native primulas in there. They often flower all summer if the conditions are right, ie cool and wet.

I have a little piece of white geranium to put in which is a chunk taken from a bigger one. Some of the whites don't flower quite as well as the more colourful ones, but they're great ground cover, and ideal for underplanting with bulbs etc. I also have Geranium renardii in another border, which has fine purple veining and unusual foliage - quite thick and velvety.

There are quite a few white varieties, so worth checking out the best do-er to get value for money. Plants have to earn their keep in a small space. image
