Thanks for the ID and the photos Chicky - it does look very pretty, and still going strong in October. I think I will plant it in the ground soon..have had conflicting advice here but most seem to think it won't take over. Thanks everyone for advice about Rudbeckias!
I planted the rudbeckia today. It's the north-facing flower bed of the garden. I wonder if it will still get enough sun there..that side is in the shade of huge pine trees from the back of my garden and next doors. The soil there may not be the best because of some big pine hedges that next door have running along the entire edge of the fence from the top to bottom length of the garden. I am always having to pull out the tree roots from next door. It pains me but I can't plant anything there otherwise.
I just hope it flowers...all the sunny spots were filled with other stuff :-(

Rudbeckia goldsturm doesn't seem to run in my soil. The clump is not thickening up as fast as I would like it.
