not very good at this gardening lark .... Though I do try! just been up to harvest the runner beans, that looked at the weekend to be ready about now, only to find that something has eaten the majority of them and most of the tiny oncoming ones as well. I had picked a few meals worth over the last couple of weeks and there was no sign of anything untoward.a couple of the vines are dying too - any ideas?
Runners are prolific and keep on giving however best to prepare ground ahead of planting loads of compost and cow manure to which they love
Have ha a gret havest this year and they ae still coming so any good tecipes welcome as i am picking at least six pound a week.
My beans have had no problems with any insects so no sure what eating yours however give them a spray with soapy water which may help if it not too late
They are quite prolific and my are still going strong, but even my friends and neighbours are refusing them, so it's a good job we have a charity collection bucket collected every Monday to go to good causes and at this time of year it gets filled up no problem.
This week I am going to tie coloured string to some of the good long beans and keep they to go to seed for next year
Other than prepare trench ahead of planting and water when required and in flower very little work other than picking them give it a go even if it's on six plants up a wigwam you won't be short of crop

Eaten? How? Holes nibbled in them, or whole beans gone?
If some of the vines are dying, are they getting enough water? Here in East Anglia we've had a very dry couple of months.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
