Temporarily moving some plants

We have a burst water main in our front garden and they are coming to fix it on Monday. I know they are going to have to dig up a fair bit of the (small) garden, and there are a couple of plants I want to save (some I planned to get rid of anyway so am fine about losing them). One is an established tree peony, the other a recently planted brunnera. I will try to lift them on Sunday, what is the best way of storing them? There isn't anywhere else I can plant the tree peony (the brunnera could be relocated to the back garden as it's small), will it survive in a large bucket for 24 to 48 hours? I can keep it sheltered and shady in the side return. Should the bucket be full of water? Any advice appreciated!

Pot them up, water well, but do not leave them in a bucket of water.

If Peony is too big for a pot, wrap the root ball in plastic bags.

They should be fine for a few days.

  • Thank you. I think the peony will be too big for any pot I have available. It is already very well watered! Water logged is more like it....
