How long ago did it flower. The seed needs to be mature but not turned brown. It doesn't matter about wet, you're sowing the seed not storing it. If you have enough, do a few every couple of weeks, some of them are bound to be right.
At last a couple of photos, there have been just two flower spikes (only bought the plant about 3 weeks ago), the first is a newish flower the second picture is a flower that has finished, with slight brown on the top of the spike.
I don't think it's ready yet. They're pretty aren't they. It's too dry for those here, though I could have got away with it this year, 4'' of rain in June
Yes, it is striking and really glad I bought it. I will try collecting the seed in a few weeks time, I just don't want to miss the chance as I only have the two flower spikes this year. The weather is rubbish but still the flowers come although most of them look half drowned. I hope we get a decent late summer (Indian summer we call it).
