I know someone who had neighbours called Sidebottom.
They insisted their name was pronounced 'Siddy b'tom'
Mhairi is a fairly well know name here (Gaelic - pronounced Varry) Like gffinch's story, a friend of mine with this name once got grief from a client who insisted her name must be Mhari (pronounced Marry) Wouldn't listen to her when she corrected him....
She was well hacked off with him....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Like my Chinese student! She could say it perfectly well but insisted that it was pronounced a different way! Bizarre!
I had a friend many years ago called Mandy. Her boss insisted on calling her Amanda (being a snotty git). She had to bring her Birth Certificate in to shut him up.
Posts
....and I mentioned on another thread that my boiler repair man is called Bobby Ewing. I had to post a pic of his card to prove it!
I don't know if this is true but the person who told me swore it was.
He knew a chap called Mr Marks who married a girl called Aine. It's an Irish name pronounced Onya!!!

Yes Ppauper
We also used to have a customer at work whose surname was Hands. When she ordered anything, she'd give her name and then say - 'as in 'feet'....
