Someone wants a small apple tree moving. Is now a good time to move it and do they prefer particular places/soils? Also are there any no- nos with apple trees please?

It would be far better to wait until the tree has gone dormant in the late Autumn/Winter. They like a good open aspect and no immediate competition from any plant (including grass) around them.
