Could you suggest plants I could grow in pots on a 6th floor balcony. Everything I've tried gets scorched off by the cold wind (I would bring them in in winter).

Hi EJ. You are better sticking with low growing plants that will put up with wind so quite a few of the alpines would suit your conditions and could stay out all year round. Things like the thyme family, sea pinks (thrift), erigerons. Dwarf shrubs such as the small leaved hebes and sempervivums.
