Need help with Dogwood (Brown spots)

imageHello everyone, I need help with my white dogwood.  This tree was planted around 2 months ago and seems to have a small amount of new growth since then.  I have, however, noticed that there are these brown splotches on the leaves.  I'm thinking it might be some sort of fungal thing but I'm not sure.  Can anyone help me identify this problem and recommend a solution?  Thank you.

I wonder if it's powdery mildew...  Worth googling "cornus leaf problems", and trying to match the photos with what you see.  (There's another fungal disease of dogwoods called anthracnose, recently introduced from the US.  That's more serious, but it looks from the photo as if most of your plant is healthy so that's less likely to be the diagnosis.)  Powdery mildew often shows up more on the underside of the leaf so have a look at both sides.

Collecting and burning fallen leaves so the spores can't over-winter is a good idea, if this is powdery mildew.  It likes still, warm, moist air.  You can use a fungicide if you don't mind a chemical solution, though it won't cure leaves which are already affected - it'll just protect the rest of the plant.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Liriodendron, It is mostly on the top side of the leaves and that picture was taken 5 or 6 days ago,,, it has become a bit more prevalent since then.  I don't know what would cause the powdery mildew.  It has rained a bit off and on the last few weeks but it has been sunny and we get a good amount of steady (low speed though) wind.

    No hail damage.
