Hi Dominique. I guess you also want an answer to the original question from last year! I grow melons in grow bags in my greenhouse and keep them fairly well watered. I think you're meant to pinch them out and then pinch out side shoots but I'm not very efficient at doing that.

Don't know about water melons - I've never grown them.

As I did not get any replies last year I muddled on and was very successful with watermelons. Melons were very poor. If the plant has male and female flowers the male flowers are removed. Still learning having another go this year. They needed a good bit of water and space.

Knee Deep - is removing male flowers for water melons (I don't know about these)? You certainly shouldn't do it for melons as they need to be pollinated. A lot of advice tells you to hand pollinate them with a paint brush but I don't do this and still get melons.

Male flowers were removed after pollination to encourage the swelling female flowers. sorry it was not clear.

Ah, that's interesting. I've never done that either but perhaps would get more/better fruit if I did.

I did melons last year plenty of water and feed keep as warm as possible , always best to pollinate yourself for best results try to stick to 2 to 3 melons per plant , doing them again this year but my success is not as good as last year got one plant out of three , I am trying out them cucamelons this year not tasted them before .

Good luck with your melons .
