What are these PURPLE EGGS?

Over the past few days I've been seeing these purple egg looking things on my potato/pumpkin leaves. What are they? Fungus or bugs?
What action should I take?

They are definitely eggs but whether of friend or foe I'm not sure.
I get eggs like that on my squash plants from the Squash bug but the colour is usually orange/brown. I scrape them off and crush them before they hatch because they will kill the plants. I think these are Squash Vine Borers eggs.
