whats this please
in Plants
Can anyone tell me if this is a plant or a weed please. Last year i bought a pack of seeds that said they were perennial mixed but when they came i had no list of what was in there, the majority that has come up is cosmos and then this started to appear. If its a weed should i dig it up or leave it as its come up in a wild plant area so if it spreads its not a big issue as it does look pretty.

Looks pretty to me too, the leaves look familiar but no idea what it may be.
Does it matter if it's a weed - if you like it, keep it.

Could it be a Phlox ?
Lychnis chalcedonica. Definitely worth keeping.
Lychnis chalcedonica Jerusalem Cross?
Oh, Alan got there first. And I was so pleased with myself!!!
I agree, though |I know it as Maltese cross - whatever, it is pretty and less invasive than other Lychnis can be.
It's lovely. It's hardy. The colour sings out.
I grew them for the first time 2 years ago. Last year I collected seed and dead headed. Got a second flush of flowers and lots of babies from fresh sown seeds as well as spare seeds to give away to friends.
It's a favourite of mine. The plants benefit from a little discreet support as the stems tend to flop from the base.
Thankyou all am really glad i came here and asked now
and have take note of all the advice to look after it and will collect the dead heads and have more next year
See if you can pick up a white flowered one and then from the seeds you will get various pink shades as well.
