Pest problem - Any tips for a beginner? Not sure where to start

I'm making a garden for my mum - We really like this broad-leafed plant but holes are appearing in it. Can anyone recommend a course of action?

Thanks in advance!

Also I'd be happy to share pictures of the rest of the garden if anyone is interested :)

Red Jack seems to be doing okay I think?

    This is it's second year.

It looks as if something has been having a munch. Try looking under the leaves to see any caterpillars that may be around and you can then just pick these off and squash them. Despite looking a bit tatty I don't think the plant is suffering too much.

Its always lovely seeing pictures of other people's gardens.

Re holes in leaves. If it isn't caterpillars. it might be the dreaded slug/snail popuation which seems to be thriving in this damp weather.
