I am stumped. I think I have been watching and nurturing a clump of weeds but I can't identify it. I am ready to tear it out but thought I would ask the experts before I do.
What about the roots? There are so many things that help ID a plant when the leaves are similar to others. If you dig a piece up and it comes up with a complete piece of brown fibrous root, then its a different plant to one that has little white thread roots spreading out, joining it all together

Not ground elder but enchanter's nightshade I think which is not quite so bad.

certainly not ground elder, not sure about Enchanters Nightshade either. It doesn't look quite like mine.
Have a little dig and see if it has very fine white roots extending in all directions. If it has then it will be Enchanter's Nightshade
I agree Bob, not so bad, more easily swamped by other things, unlike ground elder which does the swamping.

I have some of it growing in my garden and it is a herb, a variety of mint with small white flowers.
OK, if it's a mint the smell will give it away.

Nutcutlet pardon me what I have growing is a lemon balm and not mint the leaves are narrower
still a strong smell GandW, should be diagnostic
But I don't think that's lemon balm.

Nutcutlet - it has no smell. That's what I originally thought it was as there was a chocolate mint in a pot nearby.
