Sweet pea bloom

Despite getting an early start, good compost, regular water, feeding etc , I cannot seem to get more than 3 blooms on my sweet pea stems.  Any advice

    How early.?

I sowed in February, and so far I've had three stems.

Its not exactly been good weather here.

It will also depend on the variety.

This year I've grown 'hi-scent' and 'elegant ladies' - both very strongly scented and just 3 flowers on each stem. These are heirloom type sweet p's.

Modern varieties can have 7 flowers per stem.

    What variety do you have?

I sowed in Feb this time. I know that my favourite Cupani is a heritage variety and not ver floriferous but I happily trade that for scent and colour. Others I have this year are sugar almond and alan titchmarsh

  • I have been picking for a couple of weeks following all the advice I received on this Forum. I think everything has been put back a couple of weeks due to the poor Spring we had - at least our flowers should last longer into the summer/autumn.
