Millions of those tiny red insects

Hi,

I've recently had my patio done and it is crawling with those tiny red insects - I'm sure you know the ones.

Google mentions a lot about dealing with them as a pest in the home but they seem happy to stay outside in my case, and although I don't mind them in patches, they are very literally EVERYWHERE and in high density.

What can I do about them? I don't want to use poisons.

Thanks

Do you mean ants?  They're difficult to get rid of even with poison.  Good luck and hope you don't get stung - it hurts a lot

I have loads of them too. I believe they are spider mites or Clover mites. I've been reading up about them but it seems they're not that easy to get rid of! They eat plant matter but migrate onto windowsills, walls of houses etc when the ground is damp and when looking for breeding sites such as cracks/crevices. I've got them starting to come through windows and onto my ceilings!

If you squash them them or sit on them they leave a red stain on everything. I've heard that diatomaceous earth is useful but I'm not sure how effective it would be. They certainly don't seem bothered by pyrethroids.

Have you got a karcher pressure washer zap with that.

Are they actually causing any damage to anything?
