Swedes and turnips

Hello, I've been growing veg for years but have never tried swede and turnips. I've got some new raised beds this year so thought I'd give them a go for winter. ive just purchased 5 packs of seeds that say they can be sown now ish. They are turnip golden ball / turnip purple top Milan / turnip snow ball / swede best of all / swede Marian. Can anybody give me some advice on growing these? Best to sow direct or in modules? Best time to start them off? How far apart? Rows or grids? Is the germination rate usually good? Sorry for all the questions but I asked friendly garden man up the road and my dad and they've never grown them either

soil should be ok, I mixed my clay with MPC and it's doing ok for the sprouts and caulis I've got in. Thanks for the advice
