Going on holiday for 2 weeks

Hi

we are off on holiday for 2 weeks from Friday. Normally due to partners work we go the last week in May + first week in June but this year the time he can have off is later.

Again, normally, I have just planted up my pots etc so my dad in law comes round and gives them a water every day when hot and sunny and every 2 days when not.

This year however, everything is growing and, I think will need deadheading etc so it doesnt fall over by the time I return. My dad in law has asked for what he should do other than just water and I suggested nipping off any petunias or other anuals that look like they have turned and cutting down the turned stalks of my delphiniums, lupins etc.

Could any of you lovely people give me any othe tips to help my garden while I am away please?

Got to admit, I love going on holiday but blooming eck I will miss looking after my garden and hope I don't miss out on any of my grows flowering this year . It's like, my very first peony flower openness today - I have been growing them for 3 years and it at last flowered ????

cheers

If you cut off your delphiniums now, give them to someone to use as a cut flower. Dip the cut end for a few seconds in boiling water. The air will bubble out and then plunge in cold water.

Then for two weeks the side shoots on the delphiniums will build up to new flowers for when you come back .  Same with lupins, cut the head off now, let the side shoots take over. Lupins are not so good as cut flowers.

  • many thanks - I had no idea I could do that. ?

Two weeks away from your garden is hard, unless you have a good buddy to stand itn and water it for you.. I resolved last year not to go away until september when most will be safely gathered in..

Have a good time amd hope it rains on your plot amd not your holiday destination..

Move as many pots as you can into shade.
