Japanese anenome under new turf
Hi. The garden had a large bed with Japanese anenome which was dug and rotivated before new turf was laid last November. The new turf has taken very well but the anenome is now growing through the turf. I have cut the grass several times but the anenome is overtaking the grass now and has hard lumps. Should I roll back the turf and dig again then relay or use a weed killer? I am afraid I will kill the grass also.

A weedkiller for use on lawns will not kill the grass, so that is one option, but the anemone cannot grow if you keep mowing it, it will eventually weaken and die if it it cannot photosynthesise.
Very carefully mix some weedkiller with a little wallpaper paste so that it forms a sort of gel, and paint it on to the anemone leaves carefully - don't mow it until it has withered and gone brown.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks for the information.
I have been trying to eradicate Jap Anemones in my garden for 5 years and still find they return year after year, although in smaller numbers. The problem is that every bit of root you leave in the soil starts a new plant. Don't think lawn weedkiller is anything like strong enough. A glysophate based weedkiller painted on the leaves is really the only way to go and you have to leave it on the plant 3 weeks at least before mowing. It's true that continual mowing will help but not sure you will get rid of the lumps and bumps using that method. Good Luck, it's a real thug.
Good luck with it. Like Yviestevie I have been battling Japanese anemone for getting on for 20 years now and still it comes up.
