Ha ha philippa, I agree with you. As far as I'm concerned there are no such things as weeds. Yes, coltsfoot is a wild flower and when I first moved into this house it grew out of the paving up against the house wall. It has disappeared now - not by my hand - but I love the feel of its felty leaves when I see it.

One of the first flowers of spring - they bloom before the leaves appear - I love them image

  • Agree with ladybird4. A weed is just a plant growing in the "wrong" place.

Coltsfoot has  lovely yellow daisy like flowers and has medicinal uses, good for coughs apparently.

We used to use coltsfoot leaves as disposable hankies when I was a child (when playing outside).  They are lovely and soft if you have a cold...  The plants can be quite invasive though, so you might want to limit where they grow.

The yellow flowers (which are like little dandelions) appear early in the spring, before the leaves.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
