Removing very old shrubs
we have recently inherited a garden containing some very old shrubs, mostly Berberis, and one of which has sent up shoots between large paving slabs. Digging out the roots is not an option. Suggestions please as to how to destroy it

You could use SBK brushwood killer but the likelihood is that it will travel back through the roots and kill the main plant too.
