What's wrong with my bamboo?

image

This bamboo was very nice and green last summer but over the winter and still to now (June) it has been yellowish and flaky in texture. The plant is well watered (naturally) and gets a good amount of light. There is 1 hole in the bottom of the pot to allow drainage.

It looks very much like wind damage and the pot is far too small for the bamboo. It needs to be in a garden.

Poor thing isn't looking happy. Is it quite an exposed site? I've had trouble with some of the more decorative containers in the past and now I stick to bog standard terracotta (or the plastic variety) as they seem to be better for drainage. The soil in your bamboo's pot looks a little peaty which may cause it to hold too much moisture. Good drainage is as important as enough water so a loam based compost might be better.....and a pot with more than one drainage hole.
