Onoclea sensibilis

Ladybird4Ladybird4 Posts: 37,905

I have a very small Onoclea which has been growing in a pot (outside) for about 3-4 years and, shame on me, I have not been very kind to it. Every year it looks up from its very shaded place in the garden and is beautiful. I would like to grow it in my North facing bathroom but cannot find anywhere if this environment would be suitable for it. Can anyone out there tell me if this would be possible. Thanks.

It would be very happy thereimage  You wouldn't be though, as you would need to fill the bath with compost and leave the tap dripping, so it had constantly moist soilimage

I have this in a shaded, permanently wet bed in my woodland dell and it is very happy, grows about 60cm high and has spread to the verge of thuggeryimage. It would be much kinder to leave it outside and give it more water; it doesn't need to be indoors, mine has coped with some severe winters including 2010!

Thank you so much BCD! The poor little thing - in its 3-4 years with me - in its pot has only grown about 10cm high. I had already planted it out in the garden, then wondered about putting into the bathroom (no bath BTW just a shower image). It can stay in the garden well shaded and it's already looking happier. Thanks again x
