prunus amanogowa

I planted the cherry tree last year and it appeared to have settled well into  its new home, however over the last few weeks I have noticed that two of the main branches are bending one is bending forward the second on a weird angle. It also had an attack of black fly. I have now got a bendy cherry tree any solutions? or am I stuck with it? Thanks Tom

Has it been very windy round your way, Tom?  If the branches are still quite thin and bendy they could have been affected by the weather, perhaps.  If the tree looks generally healthy (both blackfly and greenfly have been a problem for lots of people this year) I'd try gently pulling the branches back to their proper position and tying them to the main stem (or to each other, or to a stake - whatever works) with thick biodegradable string.  Don't tie really tightly because you'll restrict the flow of sap. Hopefully they'll thicken up and develop a bit more strength in time.

You could post a photo if you have time...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
