My store with all the jam from this year's crop minus what I have already given my children and friends! I also have the rest of the mincemeat I made last year as you can't buy it here and I have come to love my own as it is not as sweet as the shop-bought one.

Just checked your profile The helpful herpatologist and I'm afraid that I have sacrificed my small pond in the garden for growing bullrushes and one very "stinky" plant that I brought home last year from an RHS garden!

I used to find newts in the garden but no longer. :-(

My fondness for ponds and bog gardens has dramatically decreased the number of slugs as l currently have the amphibian hat trick of frogs, newts and toads all of which love slugs. l still get the odd slug or two in damp weather but nowhere near as many.

Have you any pics? Would love to see what you have! If I had more space - or more time - I would love to reinstall my pond but would need to extend it and probably layer it to make a large enough one.

    Norwin.

A ride on mower wouldn't be practicle, as there are different levels with steps in between, recently bought a battery operated mower when the old petrol mower collapsed with rust, only fruit we grow is raspberries, had an excellent crop the wife has made a few pots of lovely jam.

Love raspberry jam, too, but don't have the space for more than a few canes. Have tried different kinds of berries like logenberries and yellow raspberries but don't get much off them but they are still lovely to eat direct from the canes when I am in the garden.

I do get a lot of runners coming up in the wrong places from my neighbour's but she has to put up with the branches of my apple tree hanging over sometimes... ?

I live in Germany and, of course, you can order everything on the Internet nowadays but I came over more than thirty years ago and then it wasn't possible so either I had to do without or make my own. The prices though to order from the net or specialist shops is astronomical!

The preserves etc here are a lot less sweet and I have got so used to it that I find it hard to eat the English jams etc when on holiday in the UK! Crazy, right? But as I have a caravan, I usually take some stuff with me.
