Where do you buy your plants?

Just wondering where folk buy their plants from?

Seeing as I'm planning on turning much of my lawn over to planting areas, I'll be needing to order lots of new plants. Garden centres don't always have the specific plants that I want, and places like B&Q/Homebase have a very limited choice.

So which online suppliers or nurseries do folk recommend for buying plants?

I buy quite a few plants from eBay. Only from trusted sellers and those with near enough 100% positive feedback. Not been disappointed yet. I also buy from my LGC too but sometimes they do not have the more unusual varieties of plant.

I'm lucky as I moved house last year which is miles from nearest shops but two mins from a small garden centre ?

My very favourite place is a nursery called the plant specialist in great missenden but they do not yet do online ?

My next favourite is my local ish wyevale, they really have upped their game in recent years and I think too pending who the manager is some are really brilliant these days

I went to GWL on Friday with a list. I saw the new hydrangea 'fireworks' last year and have a hole in the border when it will look lovely. I was thrilled this year to see a blue one! It's for my blue border so it'll fit in perfectly. People kept stopping me to ask which seller I'd bought it from.

We also picked up a lovely canna amongst other things. I have also been known to buy from T&M. I can't resist their offers. Especially when I've been wanting something but decided it's too much money. In my mind paying p&p doesn't count as spending.

If after something special I'll either order from the specific nursery or amazon. My crystal ice came from dibleys nursery, my peony, clematis, crimson bonfire peach tree and fig tree from amazon. I tend to research the varieties I want and then shop around for the cheapest price.

Having said that... the fruit canes and blueberry bush from wilkinsons and my other fig tree from asda are all doing well. Cheap as chips.

I'm avoiding accepting plants from neighbours as the last offering (10 years ago) I'm still trying to eradicate from the borders. Not everyone has neighbours who favour weeds. It's all a matter of opinion I guess.

Just received 3 excellent foxgloves from the secret gardening club, and last week I found myself at handley rose nursery, I've bought lots of roses from them ( bought 3last week too....don't know how it happened....) great healthy plants,excellent service and guidance,good prices. Having complained a lot about t&m they have replaced the lily bulbs that only half grew, nothing else yet, and they didn't contact me at all...I do like a plant sale, esp hardy plant society, usually get a few nice hardy geraniums and astrantias
