What has eaten my astrantia flowers?

I have some beautiful astrantia plants in my garden and have enjoyed the flowers just starting to bloom. However today when I was in the garden I have found d all the flowers seem to have been nibbled off!! Now I thought slugs didn't like astrantia so don't think they can be blamed for it this time but have heard caterpillcan so this. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you deal with it? Will I get more flowers later on or is the end of it until next year? Everything is being plagued by pests and slugs this year and I'm struggling to keep things alive!!

Hi claire.  Astrantia so are my favourite and I thought they were immune to slugs and snails.  Is there any sign it could have been them ie slime?

have they taken all the flower heads off?

i haven't heard of caterpillar either, can you see any? I bet you are so upset.

however if you cut back they will flower again this year.  Maybe also give them a good spray so if any nasty eggs etc are on them

Claire - do you have grey squirrels in the area? I frequently get flower heads nipped off by them and had to remove a climbing rose a few yew years ago as they enjoyed the rose buds.
