Amelanchier in a pot

    It's as @philippasmith2 says. Pot size should be appropriate to the root system, and it will need moved on as it gets bigger. 
    I don't see any pedantry either. This thread was initially about one not thriving, and advice was offered about keeping them long term in pots. It isn't ideal due to the care required. That's often difficult, especially for someone inexperienced .
    The OP never responded though - again, that often happens for some unknown reason so we have no way of knowing what happened    :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    You do see amelanchier in large containers quite often. There are some huge ones near Millennium Walk in Bristol. They do probably have irrigation systems though and specialised drainage layers. 

    I have a Tibetan cherry in a large water tank down at the end of my garden. Seems healthy although it's still a small tree. I dug it up during winter,  the root system is actually quite small and nowhere near filling the container. I think I would get a good ten years out of it, my only worry is what am I going to do with a huge galvanised water tank when it's completely packed with tree roots, should I want to get rid of the tree at some stage?
