Hanging baskets not going well

image

Planted my first petunia hanging baskets two weeks ago. Slightly concerned I have picked the wrong petunias?! I was hoping for the beautiful flower balls you regularly see but doesn't look like they are heading that way?!

I fed them on planting and again today. Water and deadhead daily.

Plus the pink petunias in each basket ha e developed unsightly white spots. What are they?imageimageimage

The white spots look like they may be sun damage through water droplets on the petals. Avoid wetting the flowers when watering. The trailing petunias I think you are describing are the Surfinias. These have the long trailing habit and some have beautiful double flowers.

  • It's strange that it's only on the hot pink ones! Yes I think I've realised my mistake too late ref the surfinias.

Will mine grow up and out in a straggly mess then?

They will still look very pretty so I wouldn't worry too much. They are already taking shape and will fill out so that you will look as if you have a ball of petunias rather then long trails.
