Tree Fern help needed

I have had a tree fern in a large pot for seven years and it has always done well. However I've noticed that the crown is becoming a lot smaller and although there are lots of new fronds, they are not very big. how can I restore the crown to its original size, if it's even possible? It is in semi shade and always wrapped in fleece over the winter.

I think that like most plants the tree fern would prefer to be in the ground rather than in a pot. The fronds and trunk have to be permanently moist so it will need hosing down during hot weather and fertiliser should be sprayed over the fronds and trunk once a month through Spring and Summer. You have kept it successfully for so long that if you have the room in a shady part of your garden then move it out of the pot.
