Planting Suggestions, please

Tanty2Tanty2 Posts: 231

Hi all

I've just emptied out a flower bed 15m long and about 2.5m deep.  It's south facing, and I'm sick of weeding it!

I'd like to plant something that won't get  much higher than the wall (about 2m max) and that will flower at some point.

I need plants/shrubs that will fill in the space and not leave room for the voracious weeds!

Happy to hear any suggestions, please - it's a blank (though weedy) slate to start fresh with.  I would, ideally, like something evergreen

Thanks :)

  • The larger evergreen varieties of Day Lily will cover the ground well, and there are countless varieties to choose from. Centaurea Silver Feather has lovely evergreen foliage and one plant will cover plenty of ground.

Helianthus Lemon Queen (2 metres) is not evergreen, but covers a lot of ground during summer, Larger forms of Leucanthemum likewise. Aster frikartii Monch flowers for ages and forms a dense clump.

Thanks!  Off to look those up now...I have day lillies in another part of the garden and would happily have more...

  • I would go for the shrub solanum - fabulous blue flowers and will leave space for something lower growing underneath it.  Then I would add sarcococca - wintersweet - for it's winter/spring scent.  Infront of that I would plant pinks, again for ground cover and scent.
