Mushrooms Growing On My Lawn

Hello!

I'm completely new to Gardeners World and hoping to find some help.

I've picked about 50 small mushrooms out of my lawn today. They are spreading so quickly - last weekend I had only a handful to worry about.

It's a new lawn as I've just moved into this property (new-build). I have a small dog and I'm worried that he's going to start eating them and the risks that could bring to his health.

I contacted several local lawn companies today all of whom said I just have to persevere with picking them by hand.

I wondered if anyone had any alternatives or tips? I've picked them by hand since I first spotted them two weeks ago but they have spread so quickly it doesn't seem to help at all.

Thanks so much.

    Hello and welcome image

I'd use a stiff broom and brush them off if I wanted to get rid of them.

I do think it's highly unlikely that a dog will eat fungi growing on the lawn.  I noticed some small toadstools on our grass today.  They'll go as soon as the weather dries up.

You can try to improve the drainage by spiking and brushing in grit. It helps bit it won't stop it.

Mushrooms do seem to be growing exceptionally well at the moment.  Presumably the combination of wet and warm weather.  I just go over them with the mower.

I have to say that I have always had dogs - one a real dustbin who would eat almost anything, but they never tried toadstools. I'd keep an eye on him/her, but not get too worried unless you actually see an interest in the fungi.
