dwarf apple tree not fruiting

hi,

I planted a dwarf apple tree roughly 10 years ago. It fruited for about the first 5 years then it dwindled. For the Las three years it didn't get trimmed or pruned at all. It is now a good 3 meters ish tall. Last year I pruned it, not very hard just branches from all levels to thin it out.

it flowers like crazy, same this year but no fruit. Should I give up and just get rid of it? I was thinking of cutting it right back to its base, with one or two branches left. But if it is the tree then I will have waited years for it to get to fruiting sixe for no reason!

Buy it a friend. My big apple tree used to have hundredweights on it, until one of the Apple trees next door died. Then it flowered but no fruit....lack of pollinator. I bought some cheap dwarf apple  trees from Lidl. They have a few fruits on, but the big tree is back to loads.

Is it your only apple tree?

If so, then that is the problem.  Apples need another apple, flowering at the same time, to pollinate the blossom. Some varieties even need two others. If you don't have them, your fruit would have been the result of trees in neighbours' gardens which have maybe died or been removed.

Or get yourself a 'family' apple tree - two varieties on one tree so self pollinating.  I've got one and lots of fruit forming.  Ok there are other apple trees in the area but it's supposed to work even if there aren't.
