Strawberries and woodlice
in Fruit & veg
How do I stop my developing strawberries being eaten by woodlice? I seem to remember reading last year that woodlice won't be the culprits, but they definitely are. I have straw under the plants, although in the recent rain it's all squashed so not sure there's enough of it, or whether more straw would even make any difference.

woodlice definitely do eat strawberrys regardless of whether something has been at them before or not, i tested it out as everyone last year said they don't eat strawberrys, i put them in a tub with a perfect strawberry and dying & dead plant material & rotting wood, they ate the strawberry, i have straw under mine too and it makes no difference, you can get Diatomaceous Earth to kill them, it's a natural product but i haven't tried it YET but they were all over my strawberries today so i think i'm going to have to get some
I grow strawberries in pots and itn 10 or more years I have never seen any Woodlice in the pots, holes from slugs in ripe fruit yes... You must be unlucky, are your plants in beds??

mine are in a bed made from sleepers, 3ft off the ground with only strawberries in there, i had a plant with daisy like flowers in the bed next door and they used to eat all the petals, no one believed me then either but i'd go out at night with a torch and they would be all over them munching on the soft petals, there's a thread on here somewhere with a photo .... foound it
