Honeysuckle problem.

Hi

My honeysuckle has produced the most amount of buds that I have ever known and I was expecting a good show.Unfortunately just before they were due to flower, the buds turned brown and died off.

Any answers?

  • Hi

It's in a border supported by a trellis against a brick wall which gets full sun for most of the day.As for the soil I don't suppose it is anything out of the ordinary as other plants do quite well. It is protected from the wind on 3 sides and gets sufficient watering.

  • Hi Hazel

Thanks for the reply.Had a look inside the buds and there it was, a little white grub.

What did you use to get rid of them?

    Regards Tom.

Hi Tom, I have just been redirected to this post as I have the same problem. Mine is in the ground, next to a wall and growing over an arch.Nearly every flower has been killed, and inside them are tiny white grubs/caterpillars. Wasps etc arnt much help as the grubs are inside the flowers.  I would also like to know what they are, and how to get rid of them, I garden organically.

  • Hi Carol

I cut off all the affected buds. those that were still intact and the dead ones, and sprayed with a general purpose insecticide.New buds have appeared but not grown big enough yet so unfortunately I am unable to say whether this has solved the problem.

    Good luck.

I have removed all the plant and destroyed it, will try something else, it was here when we moved in 3 years ago, but I wanted something else, so now is the time to do it.!!
