Bindweed

Over the past 5 years I have had bindweed in the garden, over the years I have put weed killer on it, but it has always come back, so last year I used the roundup gel and used it quiet often, hoping that it would not come back this year, but it has come back and it is popping up everywhere.
Is there anything else I can do to get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

i accidentally killed my best geranium trying to spray some bindweed, now I just pull it up whenever I see it, it seems to become less as summer goes on.
Digging it out and pulling it out is the only way but you will never get it all. Unfortunately it is a weed of cultivated land. I read somewhere once that the roots go down three metres!
Digging it up and carefully following the roots so as to get every last little white bit can be very satisfying, as long as it's not too bound up with other plants.
I remember Monty once dug up an entire garden to dig it all out and then had to put all the plants back in.
I don't have the energy for it.
I have tried digging it out but it just seems to go on for ever, I have some big established plants and the bindweed has come up right beside it, I can't dig that part out as it will damage the roots to the plant, I used the roundup gel so I could apply it straight to the plant so it didn't damage my other plants. I suppose the only thing I can do is try and keep on top of it. There are some areas I can't get to it, not sure what I'm going to do there.
Thank you everyone for your help.

Unwind as much as you can from your plant and place it in a poly bag and spray it in the bag. That way your not spraying around and your getting a decent leaf area covered. It's a fag but there's no easy way.
Thanks Plant Pauper, I will give that ago and see how I get on, Thanks so much.
I can't take the credit. I read it on here a while back. I hope it works for you.
I hope it does to, thanks again.
I"ve bindweed on the plot digging it out has been most effective. Were it grew back amongst herbs I dug up the plants and pulled the bindweed roots out of the herb roots and replanted them.
I find chemicals only work in killing the root in proportion to the foliage soaked above ground, so around a tree I allowed the bindweed to grow up individual canes until it started to produce flower heads then soaked the plant with a weed killer.
