Growing a cherry tree (not fruiting) from cuttings.

Hi,

I'm really struggling trying to get cuttings to grow from cherry trees. I have taken both new growth and harder wood cuttings, set them in water waiting for root strands to comE. None seem to come however and when I plant them on into new compost, they just die away. Please help me???

Cherry trees are propagated by grafting the desired variety onto a rootstock. They are very difficult to get cuttings to root, I believe special propagation equipment is needed. As the reultant plant would be on its own roots you would have no control over the size of the tree.
