Root sucker

Help...!!!! How do I get rid of those shoots that grow at the Base of tree? I keep having to cut them back every few weeks. Thanks in advance .

  • This is not the actual photo as I have just cut them back and the photo file is too large but this is very similar.

    don't cut them, try and pull them off at the 'heal' where they join the trunk

    Can't tell what type of tree it is from the photo.  

    I get them growing from the base of my twisted hazel and take them back as far as I can, sometimes from below soil level. 

    I agree with treehugger, don't chop it, that will just make it bushier.
