Rose Blackspot
Hi everyone. Ive noticed gradually my roses are showing beginning signs of blackspot since last summer i spray weekly with Rose Clear and pick of any and all dead and diseased leaves and clear any that are on the ground. I try to keep pruned to maintain good air flow any ideas or advice how to completely get rid of it or just keep doing what im doing and hope for the best? Any better sprays? Its difficult as im a Apprentice Gardener for a living and the garden and side gardens i work for all have roses and some with very large rose borders which most the roses have some stage of blackspot some beginng signs some extremly bad amoungst other dieases so the air spores could be on my clothing and secateurs? I bleach boiling water and spray rose clear on my secateurs that any use? I use different clothing and gloves for doing my own garden but unwittinly sometimes end up pottering around in my work gear. Plus most my street have the odd rose bush which have blackspot to it seems like a endless battle! I love my roses and take pride in them and next year i would like to have my own rose border but is it worth the risk :-( noticed recently some of fuchsias leaves turning yellow and blocthy green hope its not got them to. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks Sam

It is always worth having roses in the garden even if black spot stalks the neighbourhood. Some years are worse than others. There are varieties that are supposed to be resistant to the disease but that is no guarantee that they won't succumb in a bad year. You are doing all the right things to keep the problem under control (if that is actually possible) but nature always wins in the end. The fuchsias won't catch it but they may have rust.
