How to save my ivy plant

Hello everyone,

I'm an amateur gardener, (although i'm not even sure i'm worthy of that title to tell the truth) and i am having problems with an ivy plant i recently bought.

The image provided hopefully tells its own story, the leaves are turning yellow and in some cases leaves curling up and dying. I realise i have probably made a mistake by merely shoving this plant in a pot of compost and leaving it to its own devices (amateur gardener) and i wholeheartedly regret having done that but that being said i would like spare this plant from its impending death.

I wonder if it is possible? Is there much hope? Can anyone offer any tips or advice on what i should do? I noticed Miracle-Gro magnesium salts on sale at my local hardware store which i understand can be used to alleviate this kind of problem, but it'd be helpful to get an expert opinion.

I'm not aware of the PH level of the soil and as of yet haven't added any bone meal, plant food/nutrients sadly.

Much obliged

What sort of compost did you plant this in and how long has it been in the pot?

There appears to be a spot of die back on one part of the plant and I would start by cutting that out. Its difficult to kill ivy as anyone who has ever had to get rid of the stuff will tell you.

Its a little difficult to tell from the photo but this appears to be one of the larger leaved varieties and I know (from bitter experience) that these can grow huge so aren't very happy in small pots. It would be a lot happier in the ground where it can get its roots down and take over the garden.

this is strange, most posts on here about ivy are how to kill it!

is the pot/wall south facing? if it is then the roots may have overheated,

has it been regularly watered? as new plants like to be kept a little damp to establish - but not waterlogged.

I didn't know it was possible to kill ivy, I spend my life trying to kill it.

    Well done I'm impressed image
