Shoot them. I would if they started on mine, I love it to bits and the flowers last for such a short time with their wonderful scent.
Love to, but in central Handsworth it might elicit the wrong response.
You may be right, a bit risky
I'm not sure what you can do other than protect it with netting somehow but that might trap the small birds. It would look pretty awful too.
Here in the country, farmers plant sort of suspended hawk like kite thingies to try and keep the pigeons off the crops. I don't know where you get them from though. Oh, here you go

Regarding pigeons, I am at my wits end because a neighbour two doors down is feeding a flock of twenty or more pigeons who then do massive sloppy poos on my lawn (the poos are 3 inches or more in length). It is disgusting, and I cannot let my child go barefoot on the lawn. Even with shoes there is the risk of stepping on the digusting mess. There can be 30-50 poos every morning. I don't want to ask the neighbour to stop feeding the birds as she lives on her own and is elderly and lonely, and the pigeons provide companionship for her (and a right mess for me and my family!).
The birds seem to be attracted to the white clover on the lawn. I have found some American sites saying that pigeons love red clover, so I am assuming that they also like the white stuff. Is there any organic way of getting rid of white clover? I can't dig it out as the lawn is about 40 percent clover at this stage. Any tried-and-tested tips (against clover and against the pigeons)? Apparently the fake birds of prey in the link above keep ALL birds away, and that is not what I want. Many thanks. (I initially posted this in Wildlife gardening but it would have been better here. I can't work out how to move the post, hence the near duplicate post here).
It's one thing to love feeding the birds but it's another to cause a nuisance and health hazard. If you live in a built up area, I believe that your neighbour may actually be breaking the law by encouraging vermin. I would contact the local council, explain the problem to them and see if they can help. Of course you feel sorry for a lonely old woman but you can take sympathy too far.
Thanks for taking the time to write, Posy. I've posted my final thoughts (so far!) under the thread Pigeon poo deluge on the lawn.
