Worm thing on Chrysanthemum

What is this worm like thing that was on on my chrysanthemum?  I took it off and put it in a dry dish and it didn't move, so I added water and it immediately started to move about.. did I drown it?   Never seen this before, has anyone any idea what it is please?   Kind regards Tony.

There have been a great deal of posts lately about something called a horsehair worm and from some of the descriptions this looks like one. They live in water usually but parasitise insects. I have never heard of them before but they sound horrible.

There are at least 350 types of horsehair worms. The ones found in UK gardens do not parasitise humans - no need to panic :-)
